Sweaty method acting
A full-page article in Femme Fatales
Peter Glotz (Pedda) | 1 April 2008
Did you know that a men's magazine once dedicated a full-page story to Luciana and her "sweaty on-screen activities"? Femme Fatales did. "Revealing the sexy sirens of the screen", this magazine is a quirky cross between a genre magazine such as SFX and a traditional men's magazine such as Maxim.
Somewhat surprisingly, the Luciana issue dates back to December 2004. That, is when it shipped, not even her first episode as Kat on Battlestar Galactica (1.04 "Act of Contrition") had aired in Canada or the United States. In fact, the article mostly deals with Luciana's recurring roles on The Chris Isaak Show and The L Word.
Bearing the expectations of Femme Fatale's readership in mind, writer Jeff Bond focuses on the steamy aspects of her work, of course. Learn how Luciana felt about, and prepared for, kissing co-stars, and what the real-life repercussions of love scenes can be.
You can discuss this Femme Fatales issue here on the Fan Board.
Transcript of the article
Luciana is the first actress to appear in Femme Fatales to actually recommend dating actors, but she has a very good rationale for it. "They don't get jealous when you do love scenes," she explains. "They understand because they do it, too."
Good point. And it better be true because Carro appears in a lot of love scenes. Her first big role was as one of the band members' groupie girlfriends in The Chris Isaak Show. "It was supposed to be a one-time thing and I almost didn't go to the audition because the audition required me to strip down to my bra and underwear and that's it," Carro says.
"I ended up being a recurring guest star for two years. Me and [costar] Jed Rees, our chemistry worked out really well. We got really dunk and got married on the show. We really party and have lots of sex and a lot of fun. We did a lot of tongue-down-the-throat-scenes. That was my first time doing that, and it was embarrassing and scary because you're not the only person there and it's not very romantic."
"I'm kind of a method actor so when I worked I tried to stay in the zone that I really had a crush on him. So even when we were off the set, secretly I had this crush on him, so when it came time to really kiss him, I kind of wanted to."
Carro also gets plenty of action on our new favorite show, The L Word, playing the occasional girlfriend of Shane (Katherine Moennig). "I'm kind of like her little on-and-off booty call. That was the first time I ever kissed a girl, and we didn't rehearse the scene or anything, so when they shot that that was my first kiss with a girl."
"It was different – she made me really giddy because she's so hot. I turned into a little girl and got all scared and nervous. My ex boyfriend saw that episode and I hadn't talked to him in a while, and he said 'You know, normally that stuff would bug me, but I kind of like it. I'm into that.'"
Not all the action Carro gets into is sexual – although it does always seem to be sweaty. She got pretty worked up about playing a Viper pilot on the new Battlestar Galactica. "It was all greenscreen when we were flying, and it was challenging, but once I was in there I felt like I was in a video game. I felt like I was really flying the Viper and I was sweating and everything."
That's funny; we're getting kind of the same feeling.
