Luciana Carro as Louanne "Kat" Katraine on Battlestar Galactica

Luciana is probably most famous for her portrayal of edgy Viper pilot Louanne "Kat" Katraine on Battlestar Galactica. Introduced in early season one, Kat would soon become a recurring character, appearing in 16 episodes of the show's first three seasons.
When she was hired as a day player for "Act of Contrition" (1.04), Luciana "had no idea what I was getting myself into". The episode was written, and Kat was created, by writing team Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. Thanks largely to them, Kat was not only brought back in season one, but Luciana's character was expanded to play a pivotal role in several episodes of later seasons. Starting out as a pilot trainee, Louanne Katraine came a long way, eventually succeeding mentor and rival Kara "Starbuck" Thrace as Galactica's trusted CAG. Kat would leave this mortal coil in director Michael Nankin's "The Passage" (3.10), Luciana's biggest episode, and a worthy send-off including a final, wonderful scene with Edward James Olmos. The evolution of this strong and three-dimensional character provided Luciana with the chance to showcase her wide range of acting abilities – which is just one of the many reasons why she would later refer to her time on Battlestar Galactica as "the wildest ride of my life". |
